The Block 2012 – Will It Break New Australian TV Records?

Soon after a blockbuster season in 2011 rating more than 1 million viewers every day the final in August pulled a massive 3.2 million national viewers.

The Block 2012 is in Victorian Terraces this time instead of the Richmond cottages that were redecorated in 2011. $3,025,000 was put in on the four unrenovated terraces that have the potential to grow to 3 stories high and will have views over Melbourne city.

The terraces are directly opposite the former The Star & Garter Hotel and were last sold in 1999 for about $360,000. Each and every terrace currently has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and only one has off road parking. Plans to demolish an adjoining premise on Montague Street to provide 4 car garaging with loft rooms had 3 objections to the plans.

Applications shut for new contestants on September 1 2011 and filming began in October 2011 for the season that’s anticipated to go to air in February 2012. Scott Cam is back again as the host having proven successful in the last series.

There are 16 new contestants ‘the blockheads’ and the early teasers are claiming it will be a blocktastic, blocktacular, blockbuster screening a, you guessed it 7o’block on Channel 9.

Other particulars are scant as Channel 9 is attempting to keep the 5th series a big mystery and hasn’t provided specifics on the contestants.

What we do know is the address at 401/405 Dorcas St, South Melbourne Victoria Australia.

Last year the big winners in real estate Richmond   were Biggin & Scott representing the fortunate Polly & Waz. Perhaps the agents of the last sale Buxton Albert Park will be one of the agents on the show?

Will The Block 2012 do as well as the last series or have the Australian audience had enough of the format. February is a fantastic time to see as ratings season will start again and Australians will be sick of viewing the trash  scheduled during the non-ratings period.
